We finished up our second week of the Global Read Aloud project. We are reading The Year of Billy Miller by Kevin Henkes, a great chapter book about a boy in second grade. We talked about how good readers visualize what is happening in a story and how this skill is especially important when reading chapter books. Groups of students were given a part of the book and they worked together to read and find all of the details that helped them visualize. Then they constructed these images of their characters or parts of the book. They did a wonderful job working together!
Miss Walmsley leading our class in a review of everything we learned about in Topic 2 of our enVisions math curriculum. We have learned a variety of different addition strategies, including doubles facts, near doubles facts, "best friends" that make 10, and how to add three or more numbers.
On Thursday, three second graders from our classroom went to World Mission Day to represent our school. We learned about the importance of prayer and sacrifice for others, especially for people and children in need around the world.
