Last Friday, students had a dress down day to support children in a homeless shelter. It was a fun day! We also began math stations last week. Students move in small groups to different math learning activities around the room. On the left, students are working at the circle table with a teacher. On the right, students are working in a small group to practice math facts with our addition "math machine". We will continue to learn through these stations throughout the year.

Our Family Shields are proudly displayed outside our classroom! Thank you for sharing about your family through this project. It helped our class get to know each other more!
During our first full week together, we learned about these social skills that we will practice throughout the year. We read a book for each one and talked about how we can show these skills to help us be the best classmates and people that we can be. When learning about cooperation, each student made a fish based on the story Swimmy and we talked about how we can work together as a class.
During the first week of school, 2A did some math about themselves! They thought about their age and the number of letters in their first name and found different ways to show these numbers (number name, tally marks, on a number line, in dice, etc.).
Students thought about what they wanted to learn about this year in second grade. They wrote and drew a picture of what their hopes were for second grade. We will work on these learning goals in different ways during the year!
2A came up with a bunch of rules for us to try to follow during the year in order for us to reach our hopes and goals for second grade. Once we brainstormed a bunch of ideas, we narrowed it down to these 5 rules so it would be easier for us to remember!
