While our traps were thoughtfully and brilliantly designed, the sneaky Leprechaun got away! But he made quite a mess before he left! Glitter, green footprints, and small notes were all over the traps and the classroom. The Leprechaun drew rainbows across our white boards and pranced around putting a green sticker on everyone's desk! What a mess! Maybe next year, we'll have more luck :) Happy St. Patrick's Day!

These were the students' final designs! They were so creative and worked very hard. After, they drew a sketch of their trap and labeled 6 different features of their trap to help catch the Leprechaun. These used this to help them write a paragraph describing their traps.
.Before we started building our traps, we looked at different types of traps. We talked about the features of these traps - how they help to attract, trick, and capture! Then students were put into teams to work together. We talked about the importance of working together and how teamwork requires patience, good listening ears, and inclusivity. Then students began to build! About halfway through the building process, we paused and reflected on what was going well and what they could work on improving. We talked about how good engineers do similar reflections as they work on designing and creating something!
